I have really bad teeth and am too scared to go back

Q. I have really bad teeth and am too scared to go back to the dentists. My last visit was about 5 years ago just before my youngest daughter was diagnosed with a life limiting condition and I hate to say it but I neglected my own health and teeth while looking after her. I now have a rotting tooth right at the front plus many other problems – I lived on fizzy drinks to give me energy and smoked 10 cigarettes a day for stress and am now paying the price. What can I do to sort them out? Where can I go where I won’t be looked at in disgust? Really sad and depressed about this and the amount of time I spend worrying about this should be spent with my daughter but I just don’t know what to do….,
A. A few phone calls should find you a understanding practice. Almost all the dentists that I know would be understanding of your problem. You need an assesment to find out what can be salvaged and if it can’t a plan to replace it. Dentures are often a short term fix to put a tooth in place ASAP. But if you can make some more time to maintain your teeth in future a bridge might be possible later on. Good Luck Rob
