i have periodontal discease could i have dental implants and was told it is waste of money
Q. I have just been advised that I have periodontal discease and the prognosis is that I may have to have my teeth removed. I asked whether, instead of dentures, I could have implants and was told that this would probably be a waste of money – can you advise as to the circumstances when implants would not be cost effective. Thank you.
A. If you have extensive bone loss to the point where bone rebuilding is not possible, very poor oral hygiene or problems with your general health are all factors that may make implants less favourable. If there is sufficient bone I can often remove the teeth and place implants at the same time using a bridge fixed to the implants as a provisional restoration. that way the patient never needs dentures.
