I Have Not Visited The Dentist For Some Time As I Have An Overwhelming Fear. I Need My Cracked Teeth Fixed.

Q.
Hello Dr Moore. I have not visited a dentist in a long time, this has lead to an overwhelming fear which I find hard to overcome.

Due to this, my four wisdom teeth are broken in half and have been this way for some time, some of the rear teeth are cracked slightly and I have half a tooth on my left side.

I was working with the military
for a few years, and with a bad diet and lack of dental hygiene, this has unfortunately developed.

I have not visited a dentist due to fear – is it possible to seek help through the NHS for elective surgery to fix my teeth?

A.
Hi. Thank you for getting in touch, as you can imagine many people suffer from this anxiety for many differing factors, from fear of needles to embarrassment and not wanting to be lectured. My advice would be to find yourself an experienced dentist for the removal of wisdom teeth and one which deals with patients suffering from dental phobia. The NHS can remove your wisdom teeth for free, but other treatments such as crowns or veneers are not free as they are considered cosmetic. Best of luck.
