I have just lost my tooth to gum recession, how can I stop this happening again?

Q.
Having recently lost a tooth due to gum recession I’d like to know of any health supplements that would encourage gum / bone regeneration or , failing that , that would prevent further loss.
Dental advice over the years has failed to indicate such problems – both NHS and private practices – leading to a painful and worrying situation in which I have lost a perfectly healthy tooth ( I looked at it after extraction ) due to gum and bone erosion and found out – all of a sudden – that there is a major problem. hope you can help, thank you for your time

Hi
First of all, I would check that you don’t have any underlying gum disease – have you seen a periodontist (specialist gum dentist)? I would also check you are healthy (eg no underlying health issues) and that there is no history of gum problems in your family. Good maintenance and regular hygiene appointments should be able to monitor and prevent any further tooth loss. As supplements – a good balance diet with plenty of iron and vitamin C is recommended. You can also look at coEnzyme Q10.
