i have had upper and lower valplast dentures fitted

Q. I thought I would let you know that I have had both upper and lower Valplast partial dentures fitted. They fit perfectly and feel very comfortable in my mouth. I have been able to retain my normal diet and my whole face feels rejuvinated and most importanly I have my smile back. I have read these forums for sometime now and would like to stress that implants are not essential. I have found it very annoying reading that members of the panel continually try to ‘hard sell’ impants and dismiss going for conventional dentures at every opportunity they get. Not everyone is a candidate for implants and not everyone can afford them. Furthermore, there are far worse complications with implant failure than denture failure. If there is a good understanding between patient, dentist and the lab then dentures can be successful. I wish the board would embrace this more with the users of this forum and stop condemming dentures and realise that with good care and planning, dentures can work for people.

A. I do agree with them as far as the fact not everybody needs implants, infact not everybody is suitable for implants. However, dentures in some people can be very difficult to retain and depending on the size of there ridges can be very difficult to cope with. There is also the psycological issue of dentures. Many people don’t have a problem with them but there are those people that are so concious of the fact that they wear dentures, no matter how comfortable, that they want to investigate other treatment options. Other people want to have a restoration that is retained and is not removable, for these people implants are ideal. Valplast dentures are useful in some cases but are not suitable for others. You are lucky that your dentures are stable, and you have no problems with them. You are in the minority of people though. Implants are still the best treatment option for replacing missing teeth form a dental point of view. When recommending this treatment we do have to take into account the patients desires and preferences. Patients are always given all of the options for treatment so that they can make an informed decision. Usually on this website, we get asked questions form denture wearers that are no longer interested in having them. in this case we would advise implant treatment, but without seeing the patient it is very difficult to give the specific advise. They are always advised to seek the opinion of an implant or restorative dentist.

Failures of implants are not as common as you may think. There dentists who are not properly qualified to place them and in this case implant treatment can fail if the implants are not placed properly or if cases are not selected properly. Implants have a 95% success rate in healthy patients and I know if I was ever faced with the decision I would have implant therapy every time. This is just my opinion after the experience I have had in treating patients with implants and dentures at my practice.

Kind regards

Hi, I have just had a Valplast partial denture fitted which basically is the pink part with one tooth either side of it. It cost me £323 just for the two teeth. When the dentist fitted it, it was very uncomfortable, hurt my gum and the dentist could not get it out without a fight!!! He used his drill to remove some of the pink area which was sticking into my gum and to ease the fitting. I must say that it fits really well now and is comfortable. Do not accept a Valplast denture that hurts or does not fit correctly and dont believe your dentist when he tells you it will wear off, it wont, so get him to deal with it immediately. The only problem I now have is that I talk with a bit of a lisp as the pink part of the denture is on the roof of my mouth, otherwise the thing looks great. I just hope I can start to speak normally again soon.

I had my flexible denture (partial upper plate – 3 teeth) fitted over 18 months ago. Although it was difficult to tell in the dental surgery, it soon became apparent that it was extremely uncomfortable. I persevered through the pain, thinking it was a matter of getting used to them. My dentist has been very good and I went back, weekly, many times for him to grind them to fit better. I felt pretty bad for him and didn’t want to waste his time with all the free appointments to try to make them better. So I just stopped wearing it.

Now I have another fractured, broken tooth that looks like another extraction. 🙁

Not sure if there’s any hope at all for the plate?

I have had a Valplast lower partial denture fitted and it is the worst thing I have ever had done, I really regret it, it is so painful and has made a massive cut along the side of my gum, I cannot put it in for more than a couple of hours, the pain gets worse as time goes on, not only that but it takes me at least 5 painful minutesd to get the thing out, my Dentist has shaved a bit of the pink part off but it makes no difference, I have paid £500 for something I cannot wear, it is useless. For anyone thinking of getting one of these so called `wonderful Valplast dentures DONT!!!

I have had vALPLAST partial dentures about a week. I have had them adjusted twice now. And my dentist has been very good. But they are still ultra tight in two places. So if this does not give, I shall have to have another adjustment done. What I dont understand, is, that since I have been wearing these, my mouth is constantly dry, especially my tounge. Any thoughts would be appreciated. maybe this to, after I have been using the cleaner on them more, will rectify. But it hasnt so far?
Thank you

I have just had a valplast upper partial denture made. Having a lot of problems getting a comfortable fit, tight spots. my mouth is also constantly dry, the palate has been polished twice now and for a few days feels great, it then becomes rough….I think this is what is causing the dryness. help!

Today i finally got my valplast partial denture, thinking it would be wonderful, but alas no, i am in excruciating pain, i paid £800 for these, which is a hell of a lot of money for me, dont think these will ever be comfortable, i could cry with the waste of money, wish i had stuck with my national health ones, bitterly dissatisfied and disappointed. Am now into my third week with a flexible denture (partial) covering UR 456&7. This is replacing an metal acrylic made some five years ago as a temp prior to two implants. The implants were OK for four years after which time one of the two became loose. I was advised to have a bone graft of a certain experimental type which failed to do the job and allowed both implants to become loose. Before I can have new implants there has to be an extensive healing of the bone in the area hence the flexible denture which I find makes my mouth dry and needed some adjustment to give a comfortable fit. My biggest complalint is the intrusion into the pallette which makes normal speech difficult plus the constant dryness in the mouth. So far although the fit is good the overall comfort is not as good as the temp I first had made. Any comments welcomed.
