I have had receding gums for years and now have loose

Q. I have had receding gums for years and now have loose front bottom teeth, I am a very young looking 60 year old (get away with 45 ha) and don’t want to loose my teeth, I have been regularly to the hygienist but it seems the process has gone too far. Can I do anything about this

A. Hi, it sounds as if they are loose you have lost alot of the bone around the teeth which gives the teeth support. my advice is seek the help of a cosmetic dentist which can discuss what options you do have if you lose the teeth. i hate to be the bearer of bad news but its better to be prepared. hope this is helpful.

My daughter, 4years old, has two of her front lower jaw teeth loose and just noticed another tooth is growing on the inner side of the one of the loose teeth. My wife took her to the dentist and was advised to let it like that and that everything will be alright. I am not convinced with that. Can you please adice what we can do and possibly book an appointment this week. Idont want the dental fomula for my daughter to be distorted. Thanks.

I have recently finished implant treatment. I am visiting family in America and am experiencing some discomfort in upper right front tooth. The gum in slightly inflamed and tender to the touch. The whole upper unit feels like it could be slightly loose. I amnot due to return to the UK until the 2nd of Sept. and am concerned. I am not in pain but am not comfortable either. I have called my travel insurancecompany to check coverage and am covered for an emergency visit. I have not arranged a appointment yet but am wondering if you can give me any insight as to what the problem could be.

I had a periodontal problem before I did the invisalign treatment 2.5 years ago, I think my gum went back to the healthy condition since I started to clean, brush and floss my teeth properly and keepthe mouth very clean. However I have found that my gums have been receding— pulled away from the teeth and formed a deep pockets between the frontteeth when the invisalign treatment is nearly finished now. I would like to know how much it will cost if I want to fix the 4 pockets/ holes betweenmy front teeth by the treatment? How long does the treatment take? Is it anone-off treatment or it should be done by several times? I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

hello i have recently started invisalign and have noticed a slightly soreness to my gums. It has been 3 weeks since i began the treatment and the swelling will not go down. I am booked in to see my dentist next week but just wanted some information before i go. What do you think could be causing it? thank you for any help you can give

Melvin Says :

Hi there! If you think that the aligner is impinging in your gums, get your nail file and file the edge of the aligner that bothers you. Warm salt water gargles will also help in the meantime. Please let your dentist have a look, it is probably just a transient thing.
Hope this helps and good luck with the rest of your treatment

I was all set to get my invisalign treatment and the moulds are due to arrive any day soon, but last week i fell and hit my front tooth. I went to see my regular dentist who checked and x-rayed my teeth and said she couldn’t see any damage to the root and the tooth seemed fine. It still feels a little bit tender should I put off my invisalign treatment completely or should I just wait until the mild twinge has gone down? thank you for your time

Hi, sorry to hear about your fall! I would speak to your Invisalign dentist and inform him of what has happened. I would probably wait another few weeks to ensure all symptoms have gone before you start treatment, but it is really important you inform your Invisalign dentist. hope this helps and good luck with the treatment if you decide to have it

Do you thing it normal to have swelling around the gums a week after first having invisalign braces? I have been having some discomfort from the very first day and I am starting to get a little worried. Do you think this will stop as soon as I change to my next set of aligners?

Lauryn Says :

If your aligners are toot tight or rubbing they could swell go and see your dentist.

This is very difficult to treat as the gaps are difficult to close. Perhaps if your periodontal condition is stable you could ask your dentist about braces to close the spaces

I have braces for gaps between my front teeth and my canines but I knocked my front right tooth out of place slightly, i can put them into space with my hands and it goes back to normal but once I let go, it goes back to its abnormality, the knocking isn’t very bad but i can tell and its knocking my confidence and its stopping my braces from working and stopping me from wearing my orhtodontic elastics. Unfortunately the NHS are quite strict on what they will allow to be done on the NHS if its just a minor cosmetic problem you’ll need to pay privately i’m afraid

Heyy Ian! My husband has unhealthy gums, they quite often bleed and hurt him. He has taken antibiotics quite a few years ago for some kind of gum disease i forget now. Lately my gums have started bleeding and hurting but i have a great diet and excellent oral hygene. Is it possible that i have caught the disease from my husband, from kissing or sharing cutlery? I didn’t think this was possible but i thought i’d get a dentists advice? Look forward to your reply! Thanks!

Hi, You are right that gum disease is not contagious and as such you have not caught gum disease off him. You do need to look into why your gums are bleeding though as obviously this is not normal. By the sounds of it, your husbands situation sounds like it also need further attention due to the pain and bleeding you describe.

Hi, I have various gaps between my teeth . My gums are fine however sometimes bleed when brushing.. I have tried many mouthwashes but have found that a majority such as corsodyl make my gums very weak and cause them to be very painful. However the gaps between my teeth have developed over the last two to three years and seem to be getting bigger. Is there anything I can do to stop them getting any worse? What would be the cheapest and quickest method of doing so…Thank you

It sounds like you could have some gum disease? My advice would be to seek professional help and advice from your dentist immediately so that your situation can be accurately assessed and diagnosed and appropriate treatment options presented to you. I would do this as a matter of urgency Best wishes Mar
