I have had a gold crown for 30years and recently

Q. I have had a gold crown for 30years and recently the back edge has moved away from the gum. A year ago my dentist eased it down and filled it. Last week he again filled it with amalgam, this was uncomfortable interfered with my bite and broke and fell out after 4 days. He is worried that the tooth will break if he takes off the gold crown as he doesn’t know what is underneath. What are my options. Should I ask for an x ray?

A. It sounds like a new crown would be a good idea but I would definitely ask for an x-ray 1st before deciding what to do.
