I have excessive gum growth possibly due to Phenytoin

Q. I have exccessive gum growth possibly due to my medication (phenytoin) over the last 30 years, do you think that I would be suitable for gum recontouring to my front teeth by laser surgery, I also take warfarin tablets.

A.
Yes Phenytoin does cause gingival over growth
Most patients are ok for recontouring, you may need to alter your warfarin so your INR is Ok. I would recommend you see a Periodontal Specialist for this type of treatment and to fully discuss your mediaction before treatment proceeds
