I have crooked teeth and dont want veneers can I have invasalign or Inman Aligner?

Q. I am a 42 woman who takes pride in her appearance and am now just about able to afford some cosmetic dentistry. I had several extractions as a child to try to reduce overcrowding. I have a crooked tooth at the top front which I would like to correct plus uneven teeth ( about 4 teeth) at the bottom front. I don’t want porcelain veneers as I don’t like the idea of me losing my identity for a ‘perfect’ smile – I don’t want perfection, just to straighten my own, much loved but flawed teeth! I have heard of Inman Aligners and Invasalign but am nervous of taking that first step as I don’t like the idea of tampering with healthy teeth. Also I would be worried that improvements i.e. through braces, wouldn’t be permanent. Can you advise/reassure me?? Thanks R

A. Hi R, many thanks for your enquiry, firstly the options which are non invasive like the invisalign treatment are great treatments to be able to improve the appearance of your own teeth without the need to file the teeth down to achieve a nice cosmetic result. I do understand your fears but i have to say with my experience that these treatments have very little problems and usually do what they say to move the teeth into a more desirable position. The only other thing to discuss is the results not being permanent. The problem with all brace treatments is that there is a risk that the teeth will move back after treatment is finished. But if you wear a retainer 2 to 3 times a week just at night this should stop this problem from occurring.

Hi there, i was having doubts about what system to use to straighten my teeth as i thought it would be very painful and i didnt want any teeth removed (im scared!) i had a tooth fully grown in the roof of my mouth and my front 2nd to the left tooth was pushed right out because of that, and it would stick out of my mouth and i could never grin let alone smile with confidence. Ive been using invisalign for 15 months now and i cry with happiness when i look at my teeth now!! ive got 3 sets left to go til im finished, and my teeth are almost perfectly straight! They are so comfortable and easy to wear, and NOONE notices them which is the very best part!! Plus you can take them out etc whereas with braces you cant. I am truely amazed how well these little plastic things have worked! I highly recommend invisalign to you and anyone out there debating which dental treatment to have! My before and after photos are truely amazing and when i show people how my teeth were before they are so shocked!

From £1800 but depends on how much movement is required and sometimes the lowers have to be treated if the upper teeth are to be put in the correct place

Is the quote given at the beginning likely to go up through the treatment? Is it possible to pay for invisalign braces in installments?

It really depends on the dental practice. At my practice, after your initial consultation you are explained the treatment options and the cost of the overall treatment. We also offer different payment optiions, such as finance.

Hi, I had braces fitted when I was around 12 years old and removed a year and a bit later. I was told that for my bottom teeth to be straight I’d have to have teeth removed however this did not happen as the teeth appeared straight. After wearing my retainer for a long time my bottom teeth moved back and are out of line again. They are very uncomfortable as well as looking bad. Would it be possible to get braces fitted on the NHS again? I’m a full time student and have a NHS exemption card as I suffer with Epilepsy

Hi, I am having braces fitted in the morning to correct my underbite. I am 26 years of age and suffered trauma to my upper front teeth a year ago which are still a bit tender. I am worried that the teeth are not ready for the brace yet from the trauma and that it will not do the vitality of my teeth any favours and may make matters worse. What would you advise in my situation. My own dentist is cautious about it and has individual x-rays of the teeth. On the otherhand my orthodontist is not so and reckons that if the teeth are going to die they will do so anyway.

Its hard to say but as long as the Orthodontist knows about the teeth and their history then they should do the right thing for you

Hi, I have 2 canine teeth that overlap and have not come through properly which causes me a lot stress as I can not smile because it looks terrible. I am aware they are quite high up so it may have to be a big operation. How possible it to to get them removed. It really affects my life and am willing to do anything to get it sorted. The rest of my teeth are ok so I have always said I would not have braces but have heard you can get invisible ones now, Will these show? Please help. Thanks,

Removal of the teeth probably isnt the best option. Invisable braces such as Invisalign can often work really well in these cases although you need to see an accredited dentist to get a proper opinion. have a look on the invisalignguide.co.uk

Hello doctor, I have heard that Invisalign is one of the gentler brace treatments is this true as I am quite a baby when it comes to mouth pain but I would really like straight teeth for once. Can you explain how it works and what makes this brace system gentler than other ones? Also generally what is the price of Invisalign? thank you very much

May 17th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Katelynn Says :

\Thats a lot of questions and answers. Invisalign is gentle and will straighten your teeth. Expect to pay anything above 3000 GBP for a good result. Any less means limited treatment and results. visit http://www.forma.co.uk for further information

Hey, I’m 19 years old and suffer from depression. This is caused by me feeling extremely self concious about my teeth, my two front teeth sit quit far out and there are big gaps either sides. I feel that if I get the normal metal braces this will make me even more self concious and make my depression even worse. Am I able to get an NHS referral from my doctor to receive invisalign treatment? thanks,

Adolfo Says :

Orthodontic treatment is only available on the NHS for children but I’m not really sure as I do not practice in the NHS. Your local health authority should be able to help you. Note also that the most ‘invisible’ or ‘cosmetic ‘ brace options are likely to be only available privately due to their high costs best wishes

would like a second opinion on my clincheck, my teeth have gaps in them, my dentist as told me my back teeth can not be moved to close to gaps, he said the braces will bring the front teeth forward but i will have a large gap and then need impants at each side??? is it not possible to have the back teeth moved?? on the clincheck it showed the back teeth coming forward but he told me it is not possible and their is no saying that they will move, so the best opition is to bring the small front teeth together and the put the impacts in??

my left lateral incisor has been a pain, literally. First of all, I feel it wobbling a little bit and when I press it up, it hurts. I got braces about a week ago but this has been going on for years (Im 18 years old by the way), but the braces obviously did not help the pain. I do not have gum disease, I didnt fracture it in any trauma, and when I asked my orthodontist about it, he said that he does not think it wobblesbut it does! And also my left central incisor shifts sometimes when pushed by my tongue. So what do you think?! Any advice will be greatly appreciated!! Is there anything to make teeth stronger inside the jaw?

I have not seen a dentist in many years and have severe tooth decay, mostlyaffecting my back teeth but also at the front there are black unsightly areas and my teeth are very discoloured. I have had major problems with visiting a dentist from being a small child and become anxious even at the thought of it now. I am interested in having veneers fitted, as this treatment can do in one visit and can alsooffer sedation. Of course the costs of such treatments need to be considered and I would greatly appreciate if you can give me some idea of what it would cost. I understand that you are unable to give an exact cost and thatit will only be an estimate. Kind regards

wonder if you would be able to give me some advice. I have been scouring the media to see if I can find a dentist who can help mewith my dental problems. I currently live in Saudi Arabia, and travel hometo Suffolk at least two times a year (Christmas period and Summer period. Approximately one year ago I had some dental pain and had to attend the Company provided Saudi Aramco dentist. After one root canal later and the addition of three crowns (on top of my existing three crowns), I have been leftvery upset with the appearance of my teeth. My old crowns have started to show the metal posts and are very noticeable (this would be a front tooth and one right upper molar). The three crowns that have been installed by thedentist here in Saudi(top left and 2 bottom molars) have silver edges whichare already visible on the inside gum level. I have been told that this isabsolutely unavoidable due to the requirement to have a metal post on molar crowns. The upper left crown is also obvious in colour, and my teeth arenow presenting as a range of colours. I have been left with discomfort on the bottom crown, unable to apply any pressure, or eat on it and on returning to the Saudi dentist they feel that because the crown prep took them nearto the pulp that I need a root canal under this crown. I had all the crowns cemented temporarily, as I was so unhappy with the look of them! Since then, I sought advise in my local UK area by another dentist who agreed to help me. He advised whitening my teeth first and then he would carry out replacements of the crown. However, after purchasing the whitening kit (Enlighten at 500 pounds), and before starting to use it, I developed an upper tooth sensitivity to cold and on examination he discovered that I had a large crack running along the tooth (adjacent to one of my new Saudi crowns). In an attempt to try to solve the problem the old amalgam filling was removed and the dentist filled it with a new resin filling. After filling the toothhe advised me to see how it went and come back to him for a possible root canal and another crown! I visited him again, to advise him that the fillingmaterial was rough and covered the whole tooth, making the tooth feel veryrough and dry. I thought he may just simply polish the tooth to remove theexcess resin, however, he explained that this would all go away in time and the tooth would feel natural again. Six months on, the tooth, still hasa grainy, rough surface to it and is still sensitive and obviously requiresfurther work. In summary, I really need some help and find a dentist who can help me achieve the best possible outcome. I still have the Enlighten kit, untouched, and would like to whiten the teeth, replace all the crowns (6in total, currently) and address the problem that I have with the crackedtop left molar and the bottom left crown which is causing discomfort. I amso very sorry for the long winded e-mail – but to top all this I have a huge dental phobia and I really need to find a dentist who can help me achieveas perfect a smile as I can whilst preserving the health of the teeth.

Hi there I’m getting some quotes for Invisalign and would be interested ingetting a your best price for this treatment. If this depends on my circumstances then please quote a price for a “typical” 12-month treatment process for both upper and lower teeth simultaneously. I am also considering the Inman aligner. Again a ballpark price for this would be useful, as well as information on how often I would need to visit if I went with this methodrather than Invisalign. Thanks
