Q. I have got teeth broken in my gums for years, now i have had pain in my teeth and roof of my mouth when i swallow. The problem is i have phobia of dentist and medication so i cant go to the dentist is it bad if i have a infection or abcess i dont treat. Would salt water clear up infections and abcess. I also have really numbing taste on my tongue

A. Dear M

I really do sympathize with your problem, but it does sound like you need to get some treatment for your abscesses urgently. The cause of the abscesses need to be removed to allow your body to heal itself. Hot salt water helps to localize & draw out infections but it cannot remove the broken teeth that seem to be your problem.
It is likely that the removal of the worst teeth possibly including fitting a denture to replace the function & appearance. Denture stages are not painful and the extractions can be done under intravenous sedation, this is a safe and powerful way to control your phobia.

Birmingham dental hospital runs a free of charge sedation clinic, there is a big waiting list but its free & sedation patients are not treated by students. Alternatively we run a sedation clinic on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings once or twice a month according to demand. We use a separate highly experienced anaesthetist the fee is £140 per hour session in addition to the cost of the work carried out.

Good luck
