I have broken and decayed teeth but i fear dentists plz advice?

Q. I am 47 years old and have not been to a dentist for 27 years after a quite terryfying experience. I have lost alot of teeth and apart from a few at the front bottom and top the others remaining are broken or decaying. I am scared stiff of the dentist and get panicky just thinking about it. Could you give me some idea of how I will accepted if I go. I do not want to be lectured as i am well aware of my situation. What I need is a sympathic and calming approach but I am really scred this may not be the case.

A. When I see patients such as yourself I am certainly not judgmental but concerned about treating your mouth back to health.  For patients who are scared of dentistry there are a number of ways to help you through the process.  In my experience most patients who are as scared as you find IV sedation a great help.  They find that this technique makes them very relaxed during the treatment and also they have little memory of the event.  This also allows me to carry out the best treatment possible.  If this is of interest to you please contact my practice for an appointment.  i look forward to meting you.

I am 32 years old and have very bad teeth. Alot of the front ones are chipped and decaying and many of the back ones have really painfull cavities. I had been very poorly for many years and was vomiting daily due to my medication which i was told didn’t help my teeth because of the acid. I went to an emergency dentist back in january which i kept putting off as i am absolutely petrified of dentists, the smell, noises etc and he was disgusted with my teeth and didn’t hold back in letting me know. I never smile and if i laugh i alway put my hand to my mouth. Sinve that visit i an now more embarrassed than ever to seek help. Please help me, I am now thankfully well but the state of my teeth are making me miserable, i won’t go out with friends and have a really low self asteem. I really hope you can offer me some advice

Hi, I have a lot of problems with my teeth although I look after them properly always have regular check-ups & on a denplan scheme. My teeth seem to be very complex & when I get a problem it’s rarely the tooth it seems (referred pain! I am told) this has resulted in a apicoectomy at the hospital and tooth removal near the the front only to discover this wasn’t the tooth causing the pain but two back teeth which needed root canal treatment. I was fitted with a Maryland bridge which has lasted fairly well for the last 10 years. However last summer my teeth started playing up again, it appeared I have very sensitive teeth and since then I have been going on a regular basis, having gel painted on, although not perfect it helped a little. The start of this year things got worse and it seems I live at the dentist, I have had several X-rays, fillings & fluoride toothpaste. I have since had a deep filling taken out and packed with a special dressing (my dentist thinks she will have to do root canal treatment) the lower back tooth also reveled a crack in the root when she drilled into it, which didn’t show on the X-ray, this also has a special dressing in it. On top of all that the back right molar broke off ( this was one of the root canal treated tooth) then the Maryland bridge broke, I think this has happened as I have had to eat on this side as the left side has been too painful. The crown and molar broke again which I had replaced yesterday. My dentist thinks now I should consider an implant, prices seem to be spiralling, do you think I would be considered for implants at one of the teaching hospitals? If so how would I proceed. I live in Dorset.
