I have bone loss but need quite a few implants the thought of dentures depresses me how much would implants cost and how long would it take?

Q. Dear Dr Caplan I am 49 years old and have substantial bone loss top and bottom jaws. I have in the past been referred to the dental section of Torbay hospital and now I have my teeth strapped upper and lower. Last year I had some xrays taken and my then dentist thought that there might be enough bone for implants but I would need quite a few I think. I believe the cost would be very expensive but the thought of dentures makes me so depressed. I wondered if you might be able to give me an indication on time span and cost if that my be possible. Yours Sincerely S

A. Dear S,

Implants are a wonderful solution to restoring a mouth. There are a number of ways to bring your mouth back into function using implants. Unfortunately it is not possible to give you an idea of the costs or time spans involved due to the complex nature of your problem. Suffice to say the costs are in the thousands rather than the hundreds.

My advice to you is to contact dentists in your area to get a number of opinions on your problem, with the estimated costs involved.

Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Regards,
