I have been told that there is a new type of bridge available that is made with plastic now. Do you know the name of this and its advantages and disadvantages?

Q. My tooth front teeth were capped about 7 years ago. In December I had to have one of the teeth pulled due to a cyst in my gum which had ate into my bone. The oral surgeon has told me I have healed well, the cyst was a normal cyst, however, due to the lack of bone, I cannot be a candidate for a titanium post and crown. I am trying to research bridges before my appointment with my dentist. I have been told that there is a new type of bridge available that is made with plastic now. Do you know the name of this and its advantages and disadvantages? Any assistance you can give me I would appreciate. Thank you.

A. Hi Plastic bridges are still not strong enough to be considered a permanent replacement. If you are worried about having the teeth drilled down you could consider an adhesive (maryland) bridge or maybe a bone graft to replace the missing bone prior to an implant

Hope this helps Regards  Andrew
