I have an impacted wisdom tooth so the dentist has advised that I have the second molar tooth removed instead, is this the only method of treatment available to me?

Q.
Hi,
I have had pain for about a week now and booked an emergency dental appointment this week and following a number of x-rays the hospital says I have an impacted wisdom tooth. He wants to extract the 2nd molar instead of the wisdom tooth next week but I don’t think the impact is that serious yet and would rather have the wisdom out. I was only in pain for a few days and now it is fine so imagine it is the early stage and my 2nd molar can be saved. I’ve read up on all the problems following 2nd molar extraction such as early loss of adjacent teeth and opposite teeth. Also, I don’t want it to affect my bite and don’t want a big gap in my mouth!
Could someone have a look at the x-ray and give me a second opinion?
Thanks
A.
Hi, thanks for your question. It might be better for you to ask a local dentist to see you and to take the x-ray with you as this will give them the full picture. I hope this helps!
