I have an extreme overbite as a result of sucking my thumb

Q. Hi,I have an extreme overbite as a result of sucking my thumb as a child. It has made my whole top jaw protrude. This makes me really self conscious and i feel i can never look anyone in the face as i think they will be looking at my mouth.I am desperate to get my teeth straightened but as a single parent don’t have much spare income. I would be more than happy just to have metal braces if they did the job and would appreciate it if you could tell me roughly how much they would cost and if there are dentist that do payment plans (i live in Sheffield,South Yorkshire) Any advice would be greatly received.Thankyou.

A. unfortunately there is no way to have braces on the NHS in general practice. One option for you could be to go to sheffield dental school and see if you can register there as a patient. I am not sure what the admittance polices are but it would be worth a try.
In private practice braces would cost approximately £3000
