I Have A Severe Phobia Of Needles And I Am Very Nervous Before My Labial Frenectomy. Is There Anything That Can Be Done Other Than Injections?

Q.
Hello Dr Moore. I hope you can help me as I have a severe phobia of needles and I have bad hyperventilating attacks whenever I see them coming near me or when they are about to be used on me. I have to get a labial frenectomy and I have braces and I am panicking about the needles. I read some people have to get 4-5 injections just to be numbed up for the procedure and I am very VERY nervous about this because I don’t want needles if they don’t have to be used and I am adamant about it. Is there anything else? Thank you for your time.

Hello and thank you for getting in touch. Perhaps you could find a dentist who offers inhalation sedation as it’s a very straightforward procedure and this might help you relax before you’re small injections. Search the internet for someone who has experience with dental phobic patients and offers this treatment locally to you. I hope this helps you with this procedure. Best of luck, Dr Andrew Moore.
