Q. I have a crown fitted by an NHS dentist, which has now fallen out four times. On average 2 months after being refitted. It already has a metal pole on it. I can’t afford implants, but is it worth getting it refixed privately.

A. It sounds like a problem with the root. If a post crown comes out repeatedly and the crown is a good fit, then you might have a root fracture. In which case you may need the tooth removing and replacing. I would seek a 2nd opinion and an x-ray to find out why it keeps coming out
