I Have a Broken Tooth, But It Isn’t Causing Pain. Should I Be Worried?

Q.
Hello Dr Gambroudes. A while ago one of my fillings came loose and fell out. The tooth then cracked,  then the tooth fell out. However, there is still the root and a tiny but of tooth still present. I had an abscess, but I couldn’t get an appointment at the dentist’s until days after I got it and it eventually went away, so I never bothered going to the dentist after all. The area around the broken tooth is very red and a bit lumpy. I do not get any pain from this tooth, but should I be worried? Do you think I should go to the dentist anyway to make sure everything is okay? Thank you for your time.
A.
Hi, thank you for your question. I would certainly advise that you attend a dentist for an examination and treatment as soon as possible, as the root is likely to become infected if it is left untreated. Regards, Dr Marcus Gambroudes.
