i had tooth extractions and orthodontic treatment 10 years ago is it possible to open up the gaps again for dental implants?
Q. I had orthodontic treatment 10 years ago, and made it quite clear at the outset that I did not want extractions. The ass who treated me decided that as I was a child, and my treatment was being paid by the NHS, he would send me to have extractions anyway because my teeth were slow to move. So slow, in fact, that he had the audacity to accuse me of not wearing my headgear enough at a time when, unless I wanted to wear the wretched device to school, there were literally no more hours in the day I could be wearing it. The gaps in my upper jaw, 10 years later, are still open wide enough to insert my thumb nail. The front teeth in my bottom jaw are twisted and have worn in an odd pattern which enables then to goudge lumps from underneath my tongue if I do not pay attention while eating. I hate my teeth so much now that smiling open mouthed is something that does not happen. Ever. Would there be any way the gaps could be opened back up for dental implants, or even a bridge? I was so upset at having the teeth removed that I still have them at home. What can be done to fix my bottom jaw? Is it too late to get recourse against this man? I hate my teeth; I hate the man who did this to me; and I really hope you have some advice to offer because I literally cannot go on with my teeth in the state they are in.
A. Hi H,
I am sorry to hear the problems you have experienced.
From what you have mentioned there are a number of options available to help you. You are indeed correct in that it is possible to have orthodontics to reopen the spaces to allow for a bridge or implant. However another course of treatment should also allow you to close the gap.
Without a clinical examination, I cannot tell you which is the best options and that is one you need to discuss with your dentist.
I think it is important that you do go visit your dentist so that you help solve the troubles you are having, and once you have been given the options you will be in the best position to take the appropriate action.

Hi
I it sounds like you have had a rough time. I have had negative experiences with orthodontic treatment as well and asked the same question ; is it possible to get back what I have lost and reverse my treatment? I had four teeth out and fixed braces aged 19 and it resulted in a worse appearance and various functional and physical problems. I am 28 now, and being 18, you are much more likely to find help from alternative orthodontic practitioners who may be able to offer you functional treatment. Good luck and leave a post on my blog if you like.
Take care
Marie
