I Had My Teeth Shortened As They Were Chipped. Now I Can’t Make Certain Sounds, Can You Help Me?

Q.
Hello Dr Moore. I have had my teeth trimmed quite a bit due to being chipped. I now feel uncomfortable whenever I have to make a th sound. Is that due to trimming? And I just can’t remember how I used to do it. Before having them trimmed I used to make my tongue hit the back of my tongue mostly. With the shorten teeth it automatically wants to go underneath the teeth which doesn’t feel good. Do you have any tips for getting speech back after dental treatment? It’s really bugging me. Thanks.

Hello and thank you for writing in. Unfortunately it’s just going going to take some time to get used to. There maybe some speech training techniques you can find on the internet to speed up the process of getting your tongue used to making these sounds again. I hope this helps for now. If you require any further information on the various treatments that may be of help, you can find it through this website. Kind regards, Dr Andrew Moore.
