I Had An Infected Tooth After A Filling Came Loose And Now It’s Black. What Are My Long Term Options?

Q.
Hi, a year ago I had root canal surgery performed on my front tooth. I have had ongoing problems with this tooth since I chipped it when I was 12 years of age. I have had it re-filled 3 times. Before I had the root canal, I was told I had an infection as the filling came lose. It is now black. I’m a 20 year old girl and this is really affecting my confidence. Preferably I wouldn’t like to get a crown but I am looking for a long term solution. What are my options in fixing this tooth?
Thanks, please help.

Hello. What we often do in my practice to help with dark teeth that have been root treated, is to internally bleach the teeth first before doing anything else. This can often be all that is required. However sometimes composite bonding and veneering is needed. In some cases a crown but often that can be avoided these days.

My advice is that you go and have a consultation and examination with a cosmetic dentist with a lot of experience in this field, for further advice. Kind regards, Dr Mark Hughes.
