I Had An Apicoectomy Last Week. Will My Gums Grow Back And How Long Will It Take To Heal?

Q.
Hello Dr Hughes. I had an attempted apicoectomy last week. He cut a lot of my gum to expose tooth number 19. Because of an infection the Dr felt he did not want to take any more bone away and I should go the implant route. He closed me up. My gums along the tooth and teeth 20 21 22 are very exposed and sore. I feel as if the roots are partially exposed like I had significant recession. Will this gum grow back and what should I do if it doesn’t? I am in quite a bit of pain at the moment. Could you help me and tell me what I should do. Thank you.

Hello, thank you for writing in. It’s best to ask the dentist these questions as it will relate to the specific type of surgery performed. A second opinion with a periodontist might be of benefit, just to confirm and clarify things for you. If you’d like to find more about gum treatment, you can find it through this websites pages. This could help you discuss the various issues with your dentist. I hope this helps you. Kind regards, Mark.
