I don’t want to remove my piercing, but it is causing some gum damage.

Q.
Hello,

I have a lip piercing which has made a V shaped tear in my gum. I brush my teeth twice daily and use mouthwash. However, I am concerned about my tooth falling out. It is in no way loose but it could become so. Another problem is that on one side of the tooth slightly overlaps the one next to it outwards and on the otherside they are pretty much aligned.

Two questions. What is the best way to clean my tooth and exposed part of tooth. And will it fall out? I dont particularly want to take piercing out.

Kind regards.

Hi and thanks for your questions

It’s difficult to advise you accurately without actually seeing the situation. it sounds like the pirecing may be causing trauma to the gum arcitecture? Have you seen a dentist for advice, or better still a gum specialist (a Periodontist). If the piercing is the problem it may well have to be removed. They often cause problems in the mouth to teeth and gums. You should thoroughly but gently clean the area. An Ultrasonic toothbrush with a soft or medium textured head would be ideal.

I’d advise you go and see a dentist as soon as you can for some advice

Best of luck

Mark
