I Don’t Want My Son To Have Work On His Healthy Teeth. Are There Any Less Extreme Options?

Q.
My son has Hypodontia. He is 16 years old and has completed his orthodontic work. He’s too young for implants and doesn’t want a denture. His clinic has recommended bridges but my dentist says it involves some work on healthy teeth which worries me. My dentist says he will keep work to the healthy teeth to a minimum. He’s entitled to NHS treatment but I understand that private materials, etc, are superior. Any advice would be most welcome!

I would need to assess your son in person to be able to offer some solutions – certain bridges may be possible with minimal or no damage to teeth but we’d need to see him in person first. Resin bonded bridges or ceramic bridges may be his best options at this age, as conventional bridges involve tooth preparation that may be too detrimental to the nerves of his relatively young teeth. The best treatment always starts with careful assessment and planning so please book him an examination and consultation. Kind regards, Mark.
