I don’t have any enamel on my teeth, what can I do to look after them to prevent losing them?

Q.
Hi there. I was born without any enamel on my teeth and have had years of pain and constant visits to the dentist to have work done. My dentist has never really advised me on what I can do to help keep the decay at bay, although I do follow the hygienist’s advice on brushing and flossing. Can you offer an opinion? The state of my teeth is really affecting my confidence and I am developing a fear of the dentist. My Father lost all his teeth at 17 due to this and I am terrified of the same happening to me (I am now 29). Many thanks!

The most important thing is to cut out all sugar from your diet including sugar hidden in processed foods as well as the obvious sweets etc. Your oral hygiene needs to be excellent and a high flouride tooth paste such as Duraphat will help
