I don’t get a retainer with my orthodontic treatment. Can I use a mouthguard instead?

Q. hello! first of all, thank you for your time!! now my question…i dont get retainers with my orthodontic treatment….can mouth guards serve as retainers?,
A. Not really, unless they are a very tight fit. I would find out the cost of a retainer and wear one instead.
