I Broke My Bridge Recently And I Need A Denture. I Would Like To Know How It’s Going To Work For Me?

Q.
I had dental bridge with on 3 teeth in my upper front. I have had this for about 10 years without any problem but today I went to bite into an apple and the bridge broke. My dentist said I can’t have another bridge and that I need to have dentures but he didn’t explain anything to me. I would like to know what kind of dentures I would be getting? All he said to me is not worry and that he would make sure they will look good. Now I’m not sure if I have to take them out every day or can I keep them all the time without taking them. Will it effect me when I eat or talk? Will you be able to answer my questions?
A.
Hello and thank you for writing in to me. Dentures do indeed need removing every day. Whether they effect your speech and fit well depends on the quality. You could use this for a while and if you don’t get on with it think about fixed teeth with dental implants as an alternative to dentures. It’s always a good idea to right a list of questions you have before going to the dentist so you don’t get flustered when you’re in there and they should be able to answer all your queries at that time. Thank you, Dr Andrew Moore.
