I been unhappy with the appearance of my teeth

Q. Hi I been unhappy with the appearance of my teeth since I can remember, I have an overbite I have been to a few different dentist some have advise braces will not do any good will make me dish faced but crowns would make a tremedous difference, then I’ve been advise veneers and gum surgery, who am I suppose to listen to, I just don’t know how to make the right decision. Regards

A. The first decision you need to make is whether you are happy to wear a brace or are you happy to have your teeth prepared for crowns/veneers.  The first option of a brace wil move your teeth into a better position but will not change the size, shape or colour of your teeth.  However there is minimal if any damage to your teeth.  The second option ( veneers remove less tooth and generally should be used unless the tooth is very heavily filled or sever crowding/ spacing is present) requires tooth preparation and is a none reversible procedure.  However the results well done well are long term and the effect is immediate.

These are the usual scenarios that I discuss with my patients. As a broad generally rule if you have healthy teeth of nice shape and size have a brace.  If you have poorly shaped / broken/ filled teeth and do not want to udergo may be 2 years of orthodontics then have veneers/crowns.

Obviously I have not examined you and I cannot give you any thing more than a general overview.  the above is not definitive advice as there are other factors to consider ,but hopefully gives you a basic structure to help you make a decision.

Hi, my teeth are in rather bad shape due to grinding them (they are considerably smaller than they used to be). there is also a gap between my two front teeth. what can cosmetic dentistry do to help my teeth look better? and how much would veneer/crowns cost? Thank you

Hello, I am interested in getting gum contouring and veneer treatments andI wondered on what can be done for me? what is the cost for a consultation? I also grind my teeth really badly which often results in my waking with a headache or not being able to fully open my mouth – is this something that canalso help me with? Any information you can provide would be great!

I’d really like to get gum reshaping. My two front teeth are fairly fine, it’s just the two either side that appear small as the gum coverage is lower there, then the two either side of that are fine, if not a little high – i used to have ‘fangs’ as a kid. Braces straightened them out but they’ve moved a little. What would be the next step for consultation and understand prices? I’ve literally no idea whether the work I would want doing would cost hundreds or thousands.

The next step would be for you to go to a consultation to assess everything and then we could provide you with suitable options and some estimates for the treatments
