I Am Unhappy With My New Crown, Can It Be Fixed?

Q.
I had a crown on one of my front teeth 15 days back. My tooth had got discolored & it was recommended that I get a crown. I went to my usual family doc who had done my braces earlier. But I’m very unhappy with the crown. she ground my tooth n then gave me a first crown which was a complete disaster. I asked her to replace it at any cost. She did that and it was better than the previous one but I’m not completely happy. it is protruding a bit near the fit at gums & i feel it is a little bigger & bit rounder than my adjacent tooth. The crown has a metal inside. she said that my gums would grow over the joints near the crown & it would look normal but i feel very awkward to smile 🙁 please suggest what to do. I have spoken to her about this & she says this is how one tooth crown would look & everybody who gets one tooth front cap will look the same. Please help. Thanks in advance!

It is not guaranteed that the gums will grow back and the only solution to this may be replacing it with a deeper preparation – however the chance of root canal will be high as will possible weakening of the root

making the crown from a metal free material will likely result in a thicker crown

a little bit of protrusion at gum level should be accepted but ultimately if it is to be rectified more underlying tooth will have to be removed – possibly resulting in the same issues described above

a one tooth crown is one of the most difficult things in dentistry
a cosmetic dentist will likely send you for a shade match at the laboratory and give the best advice as to what you should. No two people have the same crown.
