A. For NHS treatment contact your PCT ( Primary healthcare trust) dental contracts division and ask for details of local sedation services for dental anxiety .
for private options check the practice offers IV sedation then investigate a few local ones before deciding on the best one for you.
Sounds like you are ready.
Good Luck

I had the same problem only I am 37 so had neglected my mouth for longer. I’m sure you will have suffered some serious pain and probably an abscess or 2 as I did myself. I know from experience how daunting it is to go to the dentist after so long I left it until I woke up with a swelling to the side of my nose that really wasn’t disguisable (other than to say I’d been hit) before getting emergency dental help. I was referred to southampton PCT dental access centre, where I can tell you I recieved absolutely no judgement or down the nose looks only care and understanding. I was a complete mess struggling to breathe through a full onpanic attack just at the thought of walking to consulting room. I was booked in for treatment under sedation 3 days later (it was a Friday) and 2 courses of antibiotics with the advice that if it worsened to visit hospital. At this point I was not in any pain just looking a little unsightly but by that evening I was in some pain and swelled to the point I had to hold my face up it was so heavy. By
morning I couldn’t open my eye and resembled elephant man! I visited hospital where I was admired and attached to iv antibiotics for 24 hours, these didn’t help so I ended up having emergency surgery to
remove my complete upper set of stumps removed and have the infection drained. This was on April 25th and I have had a long long course of treatment back at the dental access centre where I have had all but 6 of my lower teeth removed (without sedation) the care and time I have been given is exemplorary making sure my dentures are perfect! I have had to relearn how to chew because with bad teeth you end up finding the best position to eat where you won’t get any pain. I have had my absolutely perfect upper dentures now for 5 weeks and collect my lower set in 6 days. The cost I hear you ask £198 now I wish I’d known about the new nhs charging before then maybe I wouldn’t have left it so long. Please please get to the dentist asap they really won’t judge you and you won’t recognise the new you after because the amount of confidence I have gained is incredible I never thought it had affected my confidence butit most definitley had
