A. For NHS treatment contact your PCT ( Primary healthcare trust) dental contracts division and ask for details of local sedation services for dental anxiety .
for private options check the practice offers IV sedation then investigate a few local ones before deciding on the best one for you.
Sounds like you are ready.
Good Luck

I had the same problem only I am 37 so had neglected my mouth for longer. I’m sure you will have suffered some serious pain and probably an abscess or 2 as I did myself. I know from experience how daunting it is to go to the dentist after so long I left it until I woke up with a swelling to the side of my nose that really wasn’t disguisable (other than to say I’d been hit) before getting emergency dental help. I was referred to southampton PCT dental access centre, where I can tell you I recieved absolutely no judgement or down the nose looks only care and understanding. I was a complete mess struggling to breathe through a full onpanic attack just at the thought of walking to consulting room. I was booked in for treatment under sedation 3 days later (it was a Friday) and 2 courses of antibiotics with the advice that if it worsened to visit hospital. At this point I was not in any pain just looking a little unsightly but by that evening I was in some pain and swelled to the point I had to hold my face up it was so heavy. By
morning I couldn’t open my eye and resembled elephant man! I visited hospital where I was admired and attached to iv antibiotics for 24 hours, these didn’t help so I ended up having emergency surgery to
remove my complete upper set of stumps removed and have the infection drained. This was on April 25th and I have had a long long course of treatment back at the dental access centre where I have had all but 6 of my lower teeth removed (without sedation) the care and time I have been given is exemplorary making sure my dentures are perfect! I have had to relearn how to chew because with bad teeth you end up finding the best position to eat where you won’t get any pain. I have had my absolutely perfect upper dentures now for 5 weeks and collect my lower set in 6 days. The cost I hear you ask £198 now I wish I’d known about the new nhs charging before then maybe I wouldn’t have left it so long. Please please get to the dentist asap they really won’t judge you and you won’t recognise the new you after because the amount of confidence I have gained is incredible I never thought it had affected my confidence butit most definitley had

I’m looking to have cosmetic work done on my teeth and also non cosmetic as I have not been to the dentist in too long due to fear. I would ideally want all done under sedation. For the cosmetic consultationwould you do it all just by looking at my teeth i.e no work at this stage? Thanks

I am terrified of the dentist and genuinely want to overcome my fear, but when I even think about it I become teary. I’m incredibly nervous but recently been suffering with excruitating ear ache and now my glands are up so I’m sure it’s dental problems as my Doctor suggests. I’d like to be sedated but I’m worried about costs. I know it’s hard to predict but how muchdo consultations and treatments cost? How much is it to be sedated? Can I pay through installments as I won’t be able to pay the full amount straightaway.

I am a very nervous patient, to a point where I have panic attacks and cryjust thinking about going to the dentist. It has stopped me having much needed treatment. I need a lot of work done to my teeth and I know it is goingto cost a lot so am also enquiring about any payment plan you may offer. Ihave been sedated in the past and feel that it is the only way I would getany treatment done. From that described on your website, my previous dental sedation seems different, so can I please have some more information about it? Thank you in advance, I look forward to speaking with someone soon.

I am extremely dental phobic and have not seen a dentist in 13 years when Ihad one front tooth replaced with an implant/crown which is now feeling loose and frightening me into seeking treatment as soon as possible. I wouldlike this with sedation as I am extremely nervous and also terribly embarrassed of the state of my mouth. I have read reviews on your site, and it isthe first time I feel like someone understands how I’m feeling. It’s a huge achievement for me to even find information on a new dentist, and I wantto sort myself out once and for all. At the moment if I can get at least this front tooth fixed I would be very grateful.

whenever i visit a densit, my blood pressure goes low, why is it so?

June 16th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Maci Says :

Is this when you get there ,or perhaps when you have an injection. For most people their blood pressure goes up . You may be over breathing making your blood pressure drop ,. Depends how you know that your BP is going lower ? some people have a BP drop and faint with any injections

December 13th, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Franklin Says :

The dentist can use a topical gel on the gum before giving the injection . The injection should be given slowly , as its not the needle going in that hurts but the dentist pushing the solution in too fast . Unfortunately there is no alternative to getting a tooth numb but having an injection . Tell the dentist about your fear
