I Am On Benefits, Can I Receive Free Treatment?

Q.
Hi. I’m 45 years and haven’t seen a dentist since I was 15 years. I know I need loads of work done and I also wear a top plate but I’m claiming benefit of £71 a week and every penny is accounted for can I still receive treatment? I’m also very scared of needled and have a very low pain threshold. I know I have to see a dentist but I’m petrified. I have a tooth missing on the top, front, left hand side and broken teeth at the back, top, right. Can a dentist do anything about all those? I can’t eat anything hard because my teeth just break.

Hello, thank you very much for your question. It is not uncommon that people go for an extended period of time without seeing a dentist. That just means though that you should go to see one as soon as possible really. It is not necessarily a bad thing. For someone in your situation, I think that it would definitely be worth going to a local NHS dentist as it sounds like you might be exempt from charges although they can let you know.
