I Am Nervous About Having Dental Surgery To Fix My Crossbite. Would Veneers Be Another Options?

Q.
I am 44 years old and have a narrow upper jaw and crossbite, despite having had braces in my 20’s. I am thinking about having SARPE surgery and Lingual braces but am nervous about the surgery and having to live with a metal expander for 3 months followed by a year of orthodontics. Ideally I would like to improve my bite but I am not sure if it is worth it at my age. The main thing that bothers me is my front teeth stick out a bit. Could cosmetic dentistry (say in the form of veneers) offer some improvement? Thanks.

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Veneers can be tricky with crossbites as the bite can cause premature fractures of the veneers or the aesthetic result has to be compromised to accommodate the bite. I would go for a consultation and examination from a practice/dentists who can advise you on both the cosmetic dentistry and the orthodontics side of things so each option can be weighed up. Kind regards, Mark.
