I am loosing all my teeth through gum disease what is the best denture

Q. Good morning Dr. Through gum disease I am losing all my teeth. I have lost my back teeth on both sides and have purchased a part denture to help the situation. I am struggling with the denture. My private dentist advices that I can have a permanent full denture put in which will be held up by 2 retainer studs which are fitted into the back gum on each side of my mouth. He says he wants £15000 for this which is a great deal of money. Is this the set price that every one charges? Also can you please tell me what is the best flexible and thinnest denture material available as the plate of the one I have been given is so thick, rigid and uncomfortable to wear. Many thanks

A. From your question i am not entirely sure if you mean the upper or lower mouth. If you are talking about a lower denture with 2 implants in the canine region, then this would cost in the region of £3500.

Please note this is the minimum amount of implants for a lower overdenture. There have been many patients I have treated who have from 2 to 5 for a lower overdenture depending on the

1. amount of bone they have
2. are they opposing an upper denture or natural teeth.
4. age of the patient
5. finances

Please note the more implants you have to support the denture, the more retentive it would be.

Also in answer to your question about thin denture materials – an option is to have a metal denture, which is of course stronger and thinner then plastic.

Also i tend to use these type of dentures for implant dentures because they are stronger.

I hope this helps.
