i am in a lot of discomfort my gums are sore

Q. i am in a lot of discomfort,my gum at the bottom back of my mouth is very sore and there seems to be what looks like a hole appearing inbetween the gum and my last molar,also a few cracks sorrounding the hole. the area is very sore to touch and its impossible to eat on that side.im not aware of any pain in the actual tooth itself,paracetomol is all i can take as i am 13 weeks pregnant. should i go se my dentist? many thanks

A. Hi,

i recommend seeing your dentist as soon as you can. During pregnancy the gums can become very inflammed due to hormone changes, and towards the back of the mouth, it may be that you are having problems with your wisdom teeth.

A dentist should beable to confirm and treat this problem relatively easily and quickly.
