I am having pains in my tooth and my throat, what should I do?

Q.
I had a filling fall out about 6 months ago. There has been no pain. a week ago i bit down on a sandwhich and a piece went insude my tooth causing pain. After a couple days it was feeling better. About three days later late in the evening it started hurting while i was just sitting reading a book. The pain increased to the point i had to go to the ER. I was given Vicadin and Penicilin. Two days later I cannot open my mouth only about 1/2 an inch and it hurts to swallow. the tooth is not really causing me pain. What is going on and how do I make it better?

Hi
It sounds as if you have quite a nasty infection. The ‘open’ tooth (due to the lost filling) has become infected in the nerve cavity. This has now spread to the adjacent tissues (cheeks and gums). It is VERY IMPORTANT you see a dentist or return to the ER immediately to have this area cleaned, further antibiotics and eventually the tooth filled or removed. Please don’t leave it as the infection will spread further.
Good luck
