I am due to have teeth removed under a general anaesthetic but i’m petrified, how safe is it?

Q.
I’m due to have teeth taken out and will need to be put to sleep as I’m petrified, but I’m worried if I’ll wake up after having the GA. How safe is it?

Please I need some reassurance about this

A.
Dear Enquirer,
General anaesthetic is used rouinely for all types of surgical procedures all over the world, every day and it has become safer and more comfortable over the last two decades. If you are fit and well, there should be no reason why you shouldn’t consider having a general anaesthetic for your extractions.
Please speak to your consultant/anaesthetist so you can get further reassuarance.
If you do not wish to go for a general anaesthetic you may want to try and have extractions under local anaesthetic where you will be fully conscious but will not feel anything at the extraction site. Alternatively, as you are nervous, you may wish to have the teeth extracted under sedation.
I hope this helps,
Sunita
