I Am 17 Years Old And I Am Tongue Tied. If I Have A Frenectomy Will There Be A Chance My Speech Will Get Worse?

Q.
Hello Mark, I wonder if you can help me. I am 17 years old, my problem is not with teeth but with my tongue so please help me if possible.
I have Ankyloglossia – tongue tie and it creates a lot of problems while speaking. This is because the frenum limits the movement of my tongue. So I am considering undergoing a frenectomy.
Do you know of any cases where the speech has deteriorated or worsened after a frenectomy? That’s the only thing I am worried about. I don’t want my speech to be further worsened.
Thank you for your reply in advance.

Hello and thank you for writing in. Unfortunately, this is not my field of expertise as that is cosmetic dentistry – I would suggest for you speak to the specialist that is likely to carry out this surgery for you. Maybe you could search the internet for further information on this and find similar cases similar to yours. I hope this helps you for the time being. Best wishes, Mark.
