How Strong are Replacement Teeth, and How Long Should They Last?

Q.
Dear Dr Gambroudes. How strong are replacement teeth? Also, how long are expected to last? I had one of my wisdom teeth replaced, but it came loose and fell out after two years. Now I only eat with the left side of my mouth. I feel very uncomfortable with the tooth missing, what should I do? I feel that I should replace it to enable me feel comfortable and enjoy my meals. I will also want to change my dentist.
I will also want to know how often one needs to visit the dentist so as to take care of the teeth before any problems occur. What is cosmetic teeth surgery? How often should one go for teeth cleaning? Thank you.

Hello, thank you for your questions. The answers vary from person to person and depending on what kind of ‘replacement teeth’ you are talking about – this could reference to a myriad of things? The best advice I can give you at this stage is to seek out a new, experienced dentist and have them assess your situation. As a minimum you should be attending a dentist and hygienist every 6-12 months.

Best wishes, Mark.
