How soon after an extraction should a bridge be fitted?

Q. How soon after an extraction should a bridge be fitted.,
A. Ideally, we always advise that you leave the gums to heal and settle for at least 3 months before a bridge is fitted. After an extraction, the bone surrounding the tooth shrinks back- hence why the gum shrinks around it. If a bridge s fitted imediately afterwards, a gap develops between the gum and the bridge- and fod rapign and decay can start- and it wil not look as aesthetically pleasing as if you wait. I would owever suggest that you wear a temporary form of a tooth in the space if you can- ie a small denture etc. This will prevent the opposing tooth from over-growing into the gap and also the adjacent teeth from drifting. Hope this has helped
