how do i choose an invisalign dentist
Q. HI Im a 35 year old female and have always hated my teeth as four of them are not strait. I want to have a invisalign brace fitted but am unsure on how to go about choosing what denist to go to. how do i know if they are qualified to fit this brace for me and how much it will cost?
A.
Invisalign has an accreditation system, platinum accreditted users will carry out this treatment on a regular basis. Alternative is look for someone on the General Dental Council (GDC.org.uk) specialist list who also does invisalign. Cost around £3-5000.
Dr Rob Tennet
St Johns Dental Practice

Please can you tell me what the different levels of accreditation are? From the Invisalign website (UK) it looks like there are at least three types of doctor: Platinum Elite, Platinum and Silver.
Thanks,
J.
Hi
I amm looking at getting invisalign treatment and on the website i have come across the Q clinic in London (Harley Street). They are offering to do the full treatment (excluding the cost of the retainers after the treatment) for £1600.
I have tried to find reviews on this clinic to see whether patients have been pleased with the treatment here but i can’t seem to find anything. I’m worried that this might be a dodgy company, especially as the price they are advertising is soo cheap compared to elsewhere.
Could someone advise me on whether they would recommend this clinic and whether i should proceed with treatment here.
Thanks
Hello, I am currently under the Invisalign treatment at Q Clinic in Harley Street. I started last year and I paid £3.250.
My teeth are like before. They made me wait for more then 2 months before wearing the first set of trays, several mistakes have been done and today I feel really frustrated because I paid a lot of money for a zero result. The worst thing is that my colleague is experiencing the same drama with them.
AVOID IT!
if you are not happy with the treatment required then write a complaint and ask for a reply. If you are still not satisfied then contact the General dental council.
As an Invisalign dentist for over 5 years I have very happy patients. They pay up to 4000 GBP and that allows me to treat the full arches with refinement built in; so no unhappy patients.
I am currently undergoing treatment. I found them to be very professional and helpful. Yes the wait for the first set of trays was about 8 weeks, but I was told that at the beginning and so they managed my expectations well. I got used to wearing the trays quite quickly and the effects are now pretty noticeable, so being about halfway through my treatment I’m really chuffed!!
Go for it ….
Hi, Im planning to get an Invisalign treatment but it seems to have different prices, Some give you 3.5K and some give you under 2K, and thats a big differences. Could anyone please suggest a good clinic with reasonable price? Thank you very much!
As an Invisalign dentist for just under 6 years I can say 1 thing:
Invisalign should be done by treating the whole arch and not just the front 6 teeth. The dentists charging under 2500 are going to either make no profit for a whole year or they are going to strip the enamel between your front teeth.
Invisalign like all orthodontics needs space, dentists treating the whole arch will create space at the back without cutting away the enamel between the teeth. They will also charge more as they take longer to treat you.
If the website you are looking at has no before and after cases then they have no successful results to show.
Cutting the enamel between the front teeth in crowded cases leaves the teeth looking like tombstones or matchsticks.
I am having problems with Q Clinic- I decided upon treatment at a later date and they said I can get it for the same price I was quoted at an earlier date. Therefore I never recieved a new treatment plan. But now their demanding that I pay for treatment at the new price although I was not told. This was not given to me in writing, can anyone tell me if the GDC can do anything to help? Thanks.
Like the previous patient, I was seen at Qclinc and have had nothing but problems. They have only done so many cases by offering it so cheap, but as with anything, you get what you pay for!!
They dont have any before and after photos (worrying). I would say go middle of the road and expect to pay upto £3000 for a good result.
Ps. Type Q clinc complaints in google – interesting!
I’m currently having treatment at qclinic. overall they have been professional and the treatment has been effective. My teeth look much better than before, however i am struggling with the odd few teeth which even after a year are still not moving into place. Looks like i’ll need yet more aligners which qclinic are having made free of charge for me. It does leave me wondering how much longer i’ll need to continue my treatment before i get my perfect smile….. :S
Q clinic – don’t ever think about it, u will very very regret like I am now… after paying the bill… difficult to get appointments… bad!
I am under going treatment at q-clinic, they have been very good so far. The reason the price changes is due to the exchange rate and them buying the trays in from the USA. If you want it cheaper watch the exchange of USD against GBP….. The price for me was fixed for a period but if you go over that period and the exchange rate moves then you will have to pay more…or if your lucky less. Since I paid I have seen the price go up and down….
As for full arch treatment I would have thought that invisalign was probably not the best option for that sort of correction? (but I’m not a dentist!) I have had filing between my teeth, however this is not noticable and bearly changed the shape of my teeth, just contact points…I guess the changes will depend on the shape of your teeth to start with and how crowded they are!??.
The movement of my teeth was explained to me at the start too…my canine teeth will be difficult to move and might not go excatly where planned as they are so deep rooted. From my research before I opted for the treatment I believe your bone density has something to do with it…..? It was aslo spelled out to me that the result depend on how good you are at keeping them in!!!..I wear mine religiously as it not cheap so don’t want to waste the chance, now even my canines are moving well and which was a bit of a suprise to all.
To be honest if I had to pay 3-5k for the treatment I probably would not have had it done! My top teeth are now finnished (after 4 months) the bottom teeth are still going and will take a while longer….but and I am very pleased with the result on top so far one very minor adjustment to do at the end they will be prefect
That last email was obviously written by someone from Q Clinic. The exchange rate does not alter the price at all. The price between Invisalign and the dentist is fixed and does not fluctuate. That is a ploy used by the dentist at Q Clinic to try and extract more money from the patient and is typical of their money grabbing behaviour.
Q Clinic only started providing Invisalign in 2006-2007 and have started a lot of cases very quickly by providing Invisalign cheaply and to a poor standard! There are lots of very unhappy patients by all accounts and eventually once enough people have complained to the GDC then the dentists at Q clinic will have to start putting the patients interests first.
The Q Clinic as well as other dentists are not putting the health of the teeth first.
They are part of a breed of dentist who charges low fees; carries out hardly any planning and then to create space will strip the enamel between severely crowded teeth.
This is usually done at the first aligner. VERY TRAUMATIC.
Invisalign does not recommend this practice as it is damaging and irreversible and is soon banishing these practices.
Any patient thinking they are getting complex orthodontic treatment for less than 2500 will be mistaken.
Normal orthodontists place a metal wire over the whole arch to create space; they do not just stick an arch wire on the front 6 teeth.
These dentists are just treating the front 6 teeth.
There are no finished cases available on the website or at the consultation stage; patient confidentiality being cited LOL
The comments by Steven are wrong I don’t work for q-clinic I am only being treated there….I do appreciate that some people have had a bad experience there, I can only go on what I have experienced…for that I can’t fault them. When I first looked at have this done the price at q-clinic was only charging £1495 all in, however at the time I didn’t have the money for it. Buy the time did have the money the price had gone up to £1895. During that period the price did go up and down…buy £100 either way…
I spent a lot of time looking into this before i decided and to be honest every clinic offering it you can pretty much find a bad review somewhere for each of them….sad thing is that only people that have had a bad experience tend to write reviews…or I wonder if its people offering a more expensive and arguably better service, loosing out on business to people offering a quicker fix?? This is generally the reason I write reviews when I feel the service has been good.
My final point which also show up in the job that I do (not a dentist or employee of q-clinic), is that if they have complete the largest number of treatments >1500 then even if 100 people aren’t 100% happy with the service then that is still less than 0.07% of the people treated…if I get figures like that at work I’m very happy!
Obviously no wants to be in that small percentage of unhappy people (luckily I’m not) but that is the reality of any service you employ. Nothing is perfect…not even my teeth, if you want to get down to the very fine details of them!
I began my invisalign treatment on 30th july 2008 and finished on 30th Jan 2010. All good.
The price I paid was £1595 plus £600 to correct a cross bite.
The dentist was top notch, knew what he was talking about and went through the procedure with me in depth.
The staff are very professional and have answered all my queries asap.
I was going to pay £4000 a few years ago but waited.
The result is that now I have teeth that are well aligned, straight and look good.
Why is it that Qclinic only do anterior teeth? Surely it is better to move all the teeth? Why is it also true that there are no before and after photos on the Q clinic website when other dentists are more than happy to show the results of previous treatments?
MS – could you let me know how you managed to obtain additional aligners from Q clinic without additional charge.
I began my invisalign treatment at Q clinic from Februrary this year 2010. My experience so far hasn’t been that good but nothing disastrous happened. Dr Anand seems to know his stuff and tries to make the treatment as short as possible, but he is always in a rush, and each appointment is only around 5 mins but having to wait up to 20 mins because their schedule is always fully packed. The longest appointment that I had with Dr Anand was the first consultation where you decide whether to go with them.
I went for Q clinic because it was a lot cheaper, but actually it works out about the same if you want your retainers and additional contouring afterwards. I’m regreting that I didn’t go for the other dentist I saw in Holborn, which appeared to be more patient and professional.
My lower teeth are now aligned after 8 trays and I still have 5 trays to go on my upper teeth, one of my teeth had to be shaved in the middle of the treatment to create gaps, but there was more than .3mm removed and now I’m slightly worried because that tooth isn’t moving and he might remove more next time (he has done it twice already).
So far my upper teeth alignment had been on track until the recent tray, I’m hoping he wouldn’t just shave more off next time, but I never get around to ask him many questions as he dashes off really quickly every time.
Q clinic quoted my treatment to be 7 – 8 months whilst the one in Holborn quoted me with 15 months, I didn’t know that it was a difference between treating the front 6 teeth and full arch, shame I didn’t read about that before. If I get to choose it again I wouldn’t go to Q clinic.
Furthermore Q clinic is quite difficult to book for an appointment and you will always have to wait for a really short appointment. If you really want to settle with cheap service then this is what you get.
Spend few hundred extra to go to a better dentist who cares about your teeth.
I am v upset and without perfect teeth after going to Q clinic. I have to admit I was swayed by their press coverage (which is plastered all around their offices) in Tatler etc. I thought that a magazine like that would not want to recommend a charlatan, but I now know differently!
I was not told until the treatment had started (and my poor front teeth had been “shaved” of a few crooked milimetres) that I would have to wear the trays at night FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE! to keep the shape.
This is just a snapshot of how upset I am. I find the guy who performs the dental work to have really bad interpersonal skills and barely talks you through the process at all, unless you ask questions. Even then, you’re made to feel kind of stupid.
DON’T GO TO Q CLINIC!
I now honestly think that most teeth have more character if they’re a little crooked (rather than shaved and messed around), just get them whitened and it will save you a whole lot of hassle (and money!).
I am extremely stressed. I got sucked into treatment at the Q clinic and it’s not working out as I expected. Dr Anand is incredibly dismissive. I really wish I had gone to see someone else. I reeally want to transfer my case oever to someone else does anyone know if this is possible?
Unfortunately I agree with many of the negative comments and complaints about the q clinic. Dr Anand gives a very smooth sales pitch and it is easy to sign yourself up quickly. My advice would be that while the q clinic is most certainly cheap, you might want to consider spending a bit more else where for a better service and experience.
During the consultation I was not told about the possibility of attachments. I ended up with them across my front teeth, definitely taking away the ‘virtually invisible’ element to invisalign. Many of my appointments were only a few minutes long and any questions I had were dismissed or answered in a defensive manner. I ended up dreading my appointments.
Some of my friends are interested in going through invisalign treatment but unfortunately I would not recommend the Q clinic to anyone.
NEVER EVER GO TO Q CLINIC!!
I could go into further detail here, but it would take too long. There’s an endless list of reasons I can think of. The management and dentist are awful! Don’t do it
I have ‘completed’ my treatment at the Q-Clinic after being told that the price quoted included free whitening and contouring. They are now stating that this is not the case and are trying to charge me for both. I would not recommend them.
Hi – i have contacted so many dentists in lomdon and i am getting such a varied price from 2000 to 3500!!! It is so unfair how the dentists can charge whatever they want. I am really thinking of going to Q clinic but I am worried about the comments people have left here. Has anyone gone to the clinic recently and what have you experienced? Also if anyone knows of any cheap places in London could you please recommend?? Many Thanks
I agree with Michelle, the price I was quoted included free home whitening at the begining of the treatment plus whitening and recontouring at the end of the treatment. I did not get the free home whitening but I chose to ignore it as I thought I can wait until the end of the treatment for the professional whitening! Now I’m at the end of the treatment they completely forgot about the whitening, and they are offering me the free home whitening kit!!!!! I also had to pay for the recontoring too! Not happy
Stay well away from the Q Clinc. The staff who work there are the most arrogant and rude I have ever come across in my entire life. There attitude and approach lacks any form of customer centricity. They are happy to cancel appointments (which you may have booked in months in advance) however won’t offer a single ounce of flexibility back. Its truely shocking. In hindsight it was a huge mistake to use them and I dont recommend them to anyone.
My experience at Q Clinic has been very enjoyable. My teeth were very crocked and now 6 months on they are nearly perfect! I do have a couple more trays to wear.
The staff have always been helpful and Dr Anand is very professional and knowledgable.
I was advised at the start of treatment that I will need retainers and been saving for these since that start.
I have reccomended friends and Q Clinic have given me a £50 gift voucher which I will be using towards my retainers.
After a 2 year long treatment with Dr Anand, all I have to say is a big THANK YOU! I never in a million years thought I would be able to fix my teeth without being a brace face. Dr Anand is truely a miracle worker. His persistence and dedication and constant reassurance kept me going throughout my treatment. I would recommend Q clinic.
Wow, reading these commens, I just realized how lucky I am!
I went to the Q Clinic last year before X-mas to get an invisalign advice, but didn’t like the fact that the doctor didn’t answer my questions, and he just rushed me out. So I felt slightly confused when I got out of the clinic. I understood that they had a high work load, but that was still very odd.
So I went to see another doctor at a small clinic, Finsbury Dental Care, where they treated me as a person and not like one of the thousands.
Your appointment never lasts longer than 5 mins??? Geez, I spent about an hour at the dentistry today as I always have millions of questions to ask…
But Dr Clapp answered all professionally!!!
I had my last appointment today, only the retention is left and I’m perfectly happy with my choice! I would highly recommend them!!!
So that was a lucky escape for me, I woud say. Please don’t stick with the first offer, go and see as many practitioners as you can, and pick the one you feel honest and professional. If any doubts, just walk away!
I have a forward crown on top teeth, 10mm gap between top and button with a very good bite (front 2 teeth stick out).
I have been to see 3 free consults, first one was Holborn (Dr Graham Tinkler) who quoted me 2.5k earlier this year (says on his site he will beat any written quote, so I shopped around for better quote),
2nd was guy near limehouse, can’t remember his name but he would recommend me fix braces, not invisalign therefore did not give me a quote and plus he does not do fix braces.
3rd Dr Russell McDonald in bishopsgatedental, I really liked him, he was a really nice, friendly and liked the way he conducted himself and showed great care but he was more expensive then Dr Graham Tinkler, I think he quoted me 3-4K, bad memory as I completely wiped him off my list.
Hi, can anyone please help?
I really want to get invisalign but I could some with some recommendations of places in London? has anyone had amazing treatment any where? I was thinking about having it done at Forma with Dr Raj Kumar, has anyone been treated by him or by Dr Graham Tinkler from the Holborn Dental Centre? I was thinking about the Q Clinic but after reading so many bad reviews today I don’t think I will bother!!
I’m really apprehensive about spending so much money and not having the best treatment…
In response to Mia.
I am currently having my treatment carried out by Dr Raj Kumar. Like you at first, I was very apprehensive worried i may be making the wrong decision. But I can honestly tell you I have had nothing but the best care from Dr Kumar and his staff at Forma.
When I went in for my consultation I was put at ease and he answered any concerns I had. He took his time and didn’t rush me out of the surgery. I have that peace of mind that I am not being messed about.
I would definitely recommend him as I have never looked back and I am very pleased that I will soon have my perfect smile….
Thank god I read this , I was just about to sign up with the Q Clinic like everyone else on here I to was impressed howvever warning signs started when you get the line ………’ How much can you afford a month ?’ ……..So will not be going there! I also went to one in surbiton where I felt like I was being sold a fitted kitchen !! Any dentist who starts to sell the product and starts pushing to sign on the dotted line avoid like the plague !!!!
Have just Rung Dr Kumar’s clinis sounds really nice have booked an appointment < Will keep you updated
I have been treated by Dr Tinkler at Holborn Dental Centre and I am very happy with the results. He has started the second most cases in London as far as I am aware, but has also been doing Invisalign for a long time.
Unlike, at Q clinic, he did not rush me, and filled me with a lot more confidence. He also has been very patient and saw my case through to the very end untill I was completely happy!
Hi I was just wondering if I could be booked in for a consultation for invisalign
Hi I am looking to get a brace for both top and bottom sets of teeth. Do yuo have a fixed price for Invisalign? Also do you provide a free consultation appointment?
I had my invisalign @ Q Clinic. And i think Dr Anand and his team were fantastic. From my experience they were actually patient enough to explain me the entire procedures. I have always been embarrassed with my smile and i never thought that it could be improved. I now have a splendid new smile that Im so happy with. It has given me so much confidence and I am now forever smiling.
I went to q clinic and post initial free consultation with Dr tapesh I signed up immediately paying a full amount of £1900 on the spot. At time of signing I was told that the cost breakup was £520 for initial examination including x-rays and impressions and cost of £1380 for the treatment. I was unsure about the kind of improvement I would see with invisalign as I have a significant overbite. I was told by the treatment coordinator that I could decide whether to proceed or not after the results from the impressions came back, at which point if I decide not to proceed, I would lose the £520, but would be refunded the remaining amount. This was a risk I was willing to take.
I went for the initial examination at which I was told that a past root canal I had, needing to be redone, and invisalign could only proceed once this root canal issue was fixed. I then decided that I did not want to proceed with invialign at all. When I then asked for a refund of the remaining amount, I was told that they could not rfund anything, I.e. I would lose the entire £1900. I am extremely shocked and don’t know what to do . Please note that at this point I have not even had my impressions taken and only had one 30 minute appointment where the dentist ( not dr tapesh) conducted an examination and did a couple of x-rays.
I am at loss as to what to do and wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue with q clinic and if there is any legal recourse I can take to get my hard earned money back. Q clinic are going back on their word. I had confirmed the point about what happenes if I decide not to proceed multiple times during the free consultation and was assured that I would be refunded the £1900 less the £520, and now they have gone back on their word !!!
Please some one advice , I feel completely cheated by q clinic !
Dear Nitasha,
I am sorry that you have had a bad experience with the Q clinic.
In the first instant you should not have been asked for the money upfront without actually having started treatment.
You should have a full examination and then a treatment plan outlining your options before you start.
If you have changed your mind then you are entitled to a full or part refund.
The first thing you should do is to write to the complaints manager and ask for a full refund.
If you get no joy then you will have to make a complaint to the general dental council and ask them to investigate.
If there has been unfairness then the Q clinic will be be able to correct this.
The GDC is used as a last resort if the dental practice complaints procedure is not able to refund the total fee. As yo have not had impressions then a full fee may be requested.
hello how do you go about finding the best invisalign dentist? Im looking to start treatment but am a bit wary of choosing the wrong dentist and wasting all my money on someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing. Are the more practised dentists more expensive? any help you could give would be really appreciated doctor
Hi Invisalign grade their doctors in platinum and platinum elite depending on the number of cases they have done (which gives them more experience). I would also look at reviews – there are some heavily discounted clinics that don’t have great feedback. Finally I would go for a couple of consultations to find someone you feel comfortable with and answers your questions and could show you cases they have completed.
How do you find out if the dentist you visit it able to provide invisalign? I have agap between my front teeth and i want to get it fixed, but i’ve been told that only certain types of dentists are able to do this and only some of them are any good. How do you know that you have a good invisalign dentist? any info would be great thanks
Hi If they offer Invisalign they should have a certificate to show his qualification and no doubt would have on their website….else sure you could ask directly. Invisalign have several levels of experience – gold, platinum and platinum elite (meaning they do more than 100 cases per year and are therefore quite experienced). You could also ask to see some of their results and / or testimonials.
