Q.
Hello Doctor mark hughes,I have a single bridge for one of my front teeth which I unfortunately lost in a accident a while ago. however every now and then the bridge keeps coming off which is embarrassing what is the best solution for this don’t really want a implant plus not sure if i could afford this .plus what would happen to the tooth that it is attach to as this has been filed down for this to stick too . Any advice you can give would be helpful. Thank you.

Hi A fixed bridge option may be the solution for you – this can sometimes be attached to one but often two teeth either side of the missing tooth. The teeth usually need to be ‘prepared’ or reduced in order to be able to fit the bridge on, similar to what happens when a tooth is crowned. There are risks and potential consequences to doing this -your age can be a contributing factor and also if the tooth was completely healthy before having the treatment or if it was heavily filled before. One of the risks is that the nerve can die and the tooth need root canal treatment.

The best thing to do is to go and see an experienced cosmetic or restorative dentist in your area or of course come to London to see me

Kind regards

Mark
