How can I stop acid erosion from damaging my teeth?

Q.
I have just been diagnosed with sever tooth erosion. I am only 23 so I’m really worried. I don’t drink a lot of soft drink or juices and I drink at least 2L of water each day, so i’m confused on how it got this bad. But the dentist did say I have naturally acidic saliva, which makes a bit of sense, but why do I? and how can i get my saliva neutral?… I am now using tooth mousse, which i hope will help. What cosmetic procedures can I have to make my teeth stronger and have less ‘divots’. I don’t have any fillings or tooth decay as yet. Is there some sort of coating I can put over my teeth?

Hello and thank you for asking such good questions.

Acid erosion can be a particularly difficult problem to treat, especially if it is severe. It’s important and a good thing that you’ve been diagnosed and hopefully early as your age might suggest.

Treatment should be directed at reducing the effects of the acid and of course maybe replacing or protecting any tooth loss that you have currently but more importantly the source of the problem properly diagnosed or identified. There are a myriad of procedures from dental bonding to porcelain inlays to purely preventative methods and to be more specific I would have to see you in person to give you accurate answers.

We usually start with diet analyse and advice and maybe a medical opinion if this is appropriate

I hope that helps but my advice would be to ensure that the source of the acidity is properly assessed and to be very careful and try to eliminate acid food and drinks in your diet

If London is not too far away then please come for a consultation or alternatively explore options in your local area on using this site as a guide to some excellent cosmetic dentists near to you

Kind regards
