How can I slow down badly receded gums that are affecting my smile
Q. Hi, I’ve noticed that in the last 6 months my gums are becoming really badly receded and it’s really beginning to affect my smile and the appearance of my teeth. I have always had a problem with receding gums but I can really notice it now. Is there anything i can do to slow this down or cosmetically change this from happening?
A. It is important to find out why your gums have shrunk back and this would be determined by an in depth consultation. Gums “shrink” for a number of reasons such as periodontal disease, tooth brushing with too much force, tooth grinding or an uneven bite. Some signs could be that your gums bleed or your teeth are sensitive to cold and sometimes hot things. In terms of cosmetic solutions once we got your mouth healthy the lost gum areas can be covered with tooth coloured materials to mask the loss or now we are able to carry out tissue grafting procedures to re grow / re position gums.
I hope this helps you
