How can I have the size of my front teeth reduced and what is the price range?

Q.
Hello. I have two large front teeth that are approx 3mm longer than my other teeth. What is the procedure for making these smaller and what kind of price range would I be looking at? Thank you.
A.
Dear Enquirer,
Hello. You can have your teeth trimmed slightly, without local anaesthetic, so that the length is shortened. It is a process called enameloplasty and is safe as the reduction of your tooth/teeth is within the enamel surface. An xray may be needed to check how much enamel is present at the edge of your teeth before a drill is gently used to trim away the extra length. The central teeth are normally slightly longer than the adjacent teeth so it is important not to remove too much of the tooth structure. Your dentist should take off very small amounts and show you periodically so you can agree as to the end point of the reduction. The reason to do the procedure without anaesthetic is so you can give immediate feedback to the dentist as the treatment is painless. The enameloplasty procedure should stop before the tooth becomes sensitive.
I hope this helps,
Sunita
