How Can I Fix a Slight Gap Between My Teeth?

Q.
Hello Dr Hughes. I had braces for two and a half years and they have been off now for six years. I wear my retainer every night. But on my front two teeth, if I put my nail between them, there is a very slight gap. This bothers me because it seems they are not as tightly together as they once were. I don’t want the gap to get bigger and I don’t want braces again! But it isn’t that bad. I mean it is very small, but it matters to me. Why would this happen? What can I do to fix it? I know I need a new retainer made but will that fix it? Thank you.

Hi, thank you for your question. You’ll probably need a couple of clear aligners to close the gap, and then finally a fixed retainer. I hope this is helpful to you, visit your orthodontist for a second opinion though, they will be able to take a look at your teeth and know for sure what the right treatment method should be. Good luck, Mark.
