Do i qualify for dentures on the NHS?

Q.
15 years ago i used a teeth whitening set with gum shield at home, but my teeth didn’t go whiter, they went darker so i used more and more of these whitening sets, my teeth ended up falling apart and my problems started. Now 15 years on i am now 31, i have 5 caps on my front teeth, 7 missing teeth and all my teeth are black, and i mean black, the more i brush them the smaller they are getting, also when i had the caps fitted to my front teeth they are the wrong size and angle so i can not bite anything at all with my front teeth, i also can not eat using my side teeth as i don’t have any teeth on the bottom of one side, and the teeth on the other side are breaking apart as i have chewed on the same side for almost 15 years, i have my health visitor coming to see our baby and she has already sent me to the doctors 6 times as she thinks i am starving myself, i am not starving myself though i simply can not eat, i have lived off soups and soft sandwiches for years now and am very thin. also as my teeth are a horrible colour i do not have any photos of myself at all for the past 15 years, not one wedding photo and none at all with our 3 children, this is destroying my life. i am an NHS patient as i can not even begin to afford private work with the amount i need done, i wanted to ask what are my options? do i qualify for a set of false teeth so i can eat and smile again? i know i’m young for false teeth but i don’t know of any other way, i just can not believe i have destroyed my teeth by trying to make them better, i had no problems at all untill i used the teeth whitening product all those years ago, can you suggest anything at all please?
A.
I’m sorry to hear of your problems. You maybe a good candidate for treatment at a teaching hospital so it maybe worth asking your dentist for a referral to a local hospital. If not it might be in your best interests to remove the teeth and fit dentures although in most circumstances I wouldn’t recommend this for someone so young
