Dentist recommends root canal but how long will this last?

Q. My dentist recommends a root canal but Im nervous because I want to know the success rates and to know how long I can expect the root canal to last. I do not want to pay for root canal then six months later pay for something else on it.,
A. Root canal treatment is required when the nerve has died in a tooth.  The success rate varies on many things including how infected the tooth is, where the tooth is in the mouth and who carries out the treatment etc.  On back teeth, following root canal treatment, you will need a crown to prevent the tooth from potentially splitting
