Q. I have been wearing a partial denture for some 5 years and have been told by my national health dentist that I am losing ‘bone’ from my remaining teeth, I asked if I could have a full denture before my ‘bone’loss resulted in my face changing shape, and was told that under the national health I would have to wait until my teeth decayed or became loose before any action would be taken. I hate the way my partial denture looks and feels. Could you please advise Thank you
A. If you have your teeth removed this will accelerate the bone loss unless they are replaced by implants to keep the bone stimulated. A full denture supported by several implants is usually a very successful treatment but is not available on the NHS.
