I Had An Infected Tooth After A Filling Came Loose And Now It’s Black. What Are My Long Term Options?

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013
Q.

Hi, a year ago I had root canal surgery performed on my front tooth. I have had ongoing problems with this tooth since I chipped it when I was 12 years of age. I have had it re-filled 3 times. Before I had the root canal, I was told I had an infection as the filling came lose. It is now black. I’m a 20 year old girl and this is really affecting my confidence. Preferably I wouldn’t like to get a crown but I am looking for a long term solution. What are my options in fixing this tooth?
Thanks, please help.

My Dentist Trimmed My Teeth Too Far Down And Now They Are Sensitive, Now I May Need A Root Canal. What Should I Do?

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013
Q.

Dear Doctor,
9 Months ago I got dental bridges on both sides (lower) from Pakistan. The dentist had trimmed the teeth too much and I still feel sensitivity issues with cold, hot and even pressure. Though it gets better with time but not finished. I consulted another dentist and he advised me to leave it as they will be okay with time. The dentist who fixed them, now advising me for root canal but I don’t want to because my supporting teeth are healthy and I don’t want them to be dead.
Now I am in the UK,  please advise me, what do I have to do to overcome this problem? Can I wait more or go for the replacement of bridges.

Thank you and kind regards.

I’ve Just Had A Root Canal Filled And The Pain Has Made Me Cry. I’m Scared Of Going To The Dentist Now. What Should I Do, My Mouth Has Started To Swell?

Wednesday, October 16th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Shaffie, I went to the dentist recently and had a root canal fill and I’m in bad pain since. I can’t eat or put my teeth together and my face has swelled up on the side the tooth was done. What should I do? I would give it a five out of ten in pain, the pain is in my ear to the mouth and has made me cry. It looks like the inside of my mouth is swelling where the needle was put in. I was told I would get pain but this pain is too much. How can going to the dentist do this to you? I wished I never went now, it has made me scared of going to a dentist again.

I Have Had Bad Root Canal Treatment Recently, But My Current Clinic Can’t Fix My Problem. How Much Would You Estimate To Fix A Problem Such As?

Monday, October 14th, 2013
Q.

Hello, Dr Riten. What I want to discuss is that I have had bad dentistry of a root treatment that has been covered by a porcelain crown. This was done around one year ago and I have had quite a few problems with it since this was done, I have now gone to another dentist who has discovered this but is unable to do the treatment as they do not have a microscope available.
Please would you give me a rough estimate of what it would cost to correct this problem and any further advice in correcting this problem. Many thanks,
I really hope you can help me with this.

After Root Canal Treatment I Get A Pain In My Mouth And A Funny Taste. Would Removing My Tooth Be The Only Option?

Friday, September 20th, 2013
Q.

I went to the dentist with pain which was going up my face and in my ear and when I bit on the tooth it hurt and felt like spongy. I also occasionally get a funny taste in my mouth. The tooth was one that I have had root treatment for last year which I had a few problems as I have a small mouth! Well that was what I was told and this was done through a crown(the crown wasn’t removed to do the treatment) When I went to the dentist today all they could say was that the tooth was decaying and couldn’t see much else wrong, basically try antibiotics to see if they would help but the only option would be to remove the tooth or retry root treatment privately for£400.00. That’s out, but would removing the tooth really be the only option? I have a fear of the dentist and I had a lot of problems with my teeth and required a LOT of treatment and I am only 46 and don’t have many of my own teeth.

Will I Get An Infection After My Dentist Put Cotton Wool In My Root Canal?

Monday, September 16th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I need some advice, Dr Shaffie. I had a root canal done by my general dentist and while in the process of getting it done she placed a piece of cotton wool inside my tooth and covered it with a hard substance. Now my tooth is throbbing and killing me and when I bite down I feel something moving away in my tooth and it’s very painful. I asked around and I was told she was not supposed to use cotton and I that this could cause some kind of infection. I was told to go to the emergency room immediately and have them remove the cotton to avoid tooth infection. Is this really true?

My Front Teeth Are Brittle After Root Canals, My Question Is: Can The Crown Be Attached Under The Gums To Look Like The Original Teeth?

Thursday, September 12th, 2013
Q.

My front teeth have had root canals and became brittle and now only the roots are left. No more crowns. The roots are up to the gum edge only. One dentist said that the roots can be cleaned again and then posts will be installed. The porcelain jacket will now be attached. My question would be: Can the crown be attached under the gums so it will appear to be like the original teeth and so the dirt will not easily enter the jacket. Will they be strong enough to use it for biting?

I Have Discoloured Teeth And My Fillings Are Sensitive. Should I Go With More Than One Consultation?

Friday, September 6th, 2013
Q.

Greeting Doctor. I have had fillings and route canal treatment done on my front teeth that continue to cause me problems as they are very sensitive and flair up often when knocked, infact my whole mouth is very temperamental and also my two front teeth have discoloured, they are a brownish colour in the front and black from behind they are really bad, and it means that I can no longer smile as it’s too embarrassing for me. I cannot have my photo taken anymore either as this makes them look worst my NHS dentist has suggested veneers or implants what would you suggest.

Many thanks.

I’ve Tried Many Treatments To Overcome My Root Canal Pain And I Don’t Know What To Do Next?

Wednesday, September 4th, 2013
Q.

Mark,

I had a root canal job done on a molar in October last year, however the pain has come back – I have tried various antibiotics, plus gone back to the Endodontic specialist in Manchester who has re-drilled the canals again and put a temporary dressing in. I still have the pain. The specialist suggests the next step is to send me to a neurolgist, as nothing is showing on the x-rays and there are no other options.

A friend in Canada is a specialist Endodontist and delivers PIPS Laser treatment (LVI Global based) and has suggested I try to find someone who practices this in the UK and also look for a dentist who has a TENS machine. I’ve not had much success so far. Any advice was be very gratefully received.
Thanks.

My Dentist Has Said She Can’t Find My Root Canals And May Have To Extract A Tooth, This Really Worries Me, What Should I Do?

Wednesday, September 4th, 2013
Q.

Hi, Hello. I saw my dentist yesterday because I have an abscess on a front tooth and she gave me antibiotics and I was supposed to go back to have root canal treatment but when she looked on my X-ray she said she may not be able to do it as she couldn’t find the root canals and she may have to extract the tooth but I don’t want to lose my tooth, as this really worries me. What do you advise? If I have to lose the tooth what would be the best way to replace it? Is it really possible that she may not find the root canals or does she just want to extract so that I have to have further treatment? Any assistance would help.
