What can I do to hide the gaps in my teeth?

Tuesday, November 13th, 2012
Q.

I have gum disease and have developed gaps in between my front teeth as well – could I still have cosmetic dentistry to fill the gaps? I am 62 and have several fillings and one recent crown but I am embarrassed by my gappy smile which has only become a problem in the last few years. I am worried that veneers or suchlike will irritate my gums. I am also a bit of a wimp! The enamel on my teeth is quite thin though my teeth are not as sensitive as they used to be since using Proenamel toothpaste but I don’t want to have anything painful.

How can I treat my misaligned teeth and bleeding gums?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I had braces about 5 years ago now and never really wore a retainer. I’m 19 and there is 1 tooth at the top that has moved slightly and 6 at the bottom. I don’t really want braces again and also my teeth are in quite bad condition. ( bleeding gums, discolouring) I was thinking about veneers but was wondering what you think would be the best treatment to get my straight teeth back . I didn’t know if I could have only them 7 teeth replaced or if it had to be all of them. Also how do I go about getting this done?

Why do I have gum disease where I had veneers fitted?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012
Q.

I had veneers across 8 of my top teeth about 5 years ago to correct my teeth that were under sized, discolored and uneven surface from flourosis. I liked the final result however, ever since I have had real trouble with persistent gum disease, receding gums and bone loss just in the area where i had the work done. I was told by a periodontist about a year ago that the veneers were not fitted 100% flush with my real teeth so there is space for bacteria to collect. She said that there was nothing i can do other than keep on top of my cleaning and oral hygine.

I try to keep a good hygine routine, brush, floss and mouthwash but it feels like a bit of a loosing battle.

I’m worried about how bad my bone loss and receeding gums will get and if the veneers should be re-done to prevent this from getting worse?

Or is there something else I can do with regards to keeping the veneers but getting some help with stopping any further bone loss?

In your experience with cosmetic dentistry, is this something you come across very often and what would you recommend for me to do?

Thanks in advance.

I have lost the majority of my teeth but am scared of the dentist, can you help?

Monday, April 30th, 2012
Q.

I have lost almost all of my teeth over many years, some extracted many years ago. However the rest have come out due to my gums receeding over the last 10 years or so. I only have 3 left and only 1 of them is a complete tooth. I have a very severe phobia which prevents me from visiting a dentist and feel I simply cannot go. I am not scared of needles or pain but suffer from panic attacks which prevent me from sitting in the chair or waiting in the waiting room. If I could find one that could treat me as an NHS patient by visiting me at home would my gums be ok for dentures?, or will they have shrunk too much?. I have not seen a dentist in over 25 yrs. thank you for any help you can give me

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012
Q.

I have recently been fitted with a top denture which is pretty awful and I have big gaps in my bottom teeth which are not false but loose, therefore I feel that I have am awful smile which is quite depressing, what can I do? I had chemotherapy 5 years ago which resulted in 6 months of thrush of the mouth which loosened my teeth. I would like to have the perfect smile but at present with these dreadful dentures it is not possible.

My gums have receded due to HIV and cardiovascular problems, what can I do?

Monday, April 23rd, 2012
Q.

Hello Dr Moore
I live with HIV and a cardio vascular isues and my gums have receded and have lost quite a few back teeth. The front teeth are in good condition, althought I am concerned that they may also go. I am looking for the best and most cost effective solution as well as a solution that looks good. Could you give me some idea what you consider the best way forward and if possible an idea of costs, and would you be willing to work with me? Is there a method of ‘gum reconstruction?
Many Thanks

I have had gum problems in the past, would I still be suitable for veneer treatment?

Friday, April 13th, 2012
Q.

Hi,

i have a question about vaneers, and gum problems.

I have severe gum problems on my bottom teeth, the gums have been receeded since i was a young child, i think primary school. I do my best to look after them now but they do get gradually worse each year. the front two teeth also happen to be quite long. I know there isnt much i can do about the gums now other than make sure they dont get worse, however my question is can i get vaneers and not damage them more. My top teeth are overcrowded and my front two teeth in particualar are rather large, with one now overlapping slightly. As the bottom two teeh are also large as well, i can see them looking all that nice just straightened (or if they would even fit!) so i wanted to get vaneers in the hope of reducing the size of my front teeth at the same time. is this somethign that is even possible or that i can have done with damage to my lower gums.

Thanks
